Dubai on a Budget: A Nigerian Traveller's Honest Guide

Emeka Uchenna· Travel WriterMarch 5, 20257 min read

Dubai has a reputation as an expensive city — and it can be. But most travellers, especially first-timers, overpay because they don't know the tricks. Here's how to do Dubai properly without breaking the bank.

When to Go

November to February is peak season (and more expensive). If you can handle heat, May–September offers significant discounts — flights and hotels can be 30–40% cheaper. Many indoor attractions are air-conditioned anyway.

Getting Around

The Dubai Metro is cheap and clean. A Nol card (similar to an Oyster card) covers metro, trams, and some buses. Taxis are metered and reasonably priced. Avoid airport taxis — use the metro or Uber.
